February Meeting Notice: ABC Radio Studio Tour

Meeting Notice

The next meeting of the AES Melbourne Section will be on Monday 18th February
(Bookings required – see form below).

It will be a tour of

ABC Radio Studios – Southbank, Melbourne

Hosted by Paul Penton (Ops Manager) and Richard Girvan (Senior Audio Operator)

ABC Radio’s Southbank studio complex forms a key node in the public broadcaster’s multiple radio networks for both national and local audiences. This tour will cover the radio service’s on-air and production studios.
It will be an opportunity to check out the SSL consoles in the production areas, as well as the Stagetec digital on-air consoles and Netia computertized playout system.

During the tour we will also have the opportunity to hear the Grover Notting monitoring loudspeakers deployed in the production studios.
The Australian designed and developed Grover Notting product range features consistent voicing across all models and is intended for reference monitoring and critical HiFi.
They use top of the range Scan Speak drivers with Bandwidth extension modules (BEM) to produce an extended, critically damped (Butterworth) acoustic alignment in compact enclosures. The split systems in the range feature active crossovers and separate, Melbourne designed amplifiers for the woofers, maintaining the critically damped alignment
