Annual General Meeting – Mon September 12th

Notice of Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Melbourne Section of the AES will be held on Monday September 12th 2011 at 7:30pm at RMIT Room 056.05.085 (directions below)

The Agenda is available here.

The short AGM will be followed by a presentation by Dr Rodney Staples (AES member) on the topic

How the Ear Really Works!

This presentation will summarise the key observations from James Fulton’s meta-analysis of a

comprehensive literature resulting in a new – and perhaps controversial – description of the function of the cochlea and the associated neural circuits. The new model better accounts for the observed hearing parameters and overcomes some of the obvious limitations of the traditional theory of operation of the cochlea.

Fulton’s analysis takes a fresh look at existing biomedical literature through the eyes of a senior engineer, with some surprising observations as a result, that at times conflict with conventional wisdom.

The presentation invites challenge to, and discussion of, the observations.
