Two meetings coming up – both with international speakers

June/July  is going to be a busy time for AES meetings.
We have two meetings with respected international speakers, one of them just over a week away…..

Thursday 30th June at 7:30pm at Swinburne Uni  - Lecture Theatre EN101

Thursday 14th July at 7:30pm at JMC Academy, Bank St South Melbourne
EBU PLOUD Group Member Jean-Paul Moerman on TV Loudness – Get Ready for the Next Decade.

Meeting Report: Digital Radio in Australia

Meeting Location: Lecture Hall 82, RMIT Carlton

Summary

Digital Radio Broadcasting has been on air in Australia for six months and is using the DAB+ standard (Eureka147 DAB using AACplus coding instead of MPEG1LII). The commercial and public sector broadcasters in five capital cities (incl Melbourne) are now on air, with community broadcasters to follow in the next few months.

Meeting Report: Film Sound Recording

Meeting Location: Central City Studios, Melbourne Docklands

Summary

AES member and award-winning film and TV sound recordist, Gary Wilkins hosted the section with an entertaining exposition of the technology and techniques of the location film sound recording mixer, interspersed with anecdotes about his experiences on the many feature films and TV series he has worked on. This was followed by a tour of the massive sound stages of Central City Studios.
